Hyderabad: A student from Hyderabad is fighting for his life in a hospital in the US after being critically injured in a hit-and-run accident in Philadelphia. With mounting medical expenses, his friends have now set up a GoFundMe page to foot the bill.
The victim was identified as Aditya (25) by his friend Shashidhar Dumpa from Wilmington in Delaware on the GoFundMe page started three days ago. Dumpa said that Aditya was hit by the unidentified vehicle while crossing the road.
According to local news reports, the accident happened on Nov 2. It was reported that his skull was fractured and there was internal bleeding after he was hit by, possibly, a jeep in north Philadelphia around 2.45 am. The driver fled from the spot after accident. News reports, however, did not identify the victim. Police are yet to find the driver.
On the GoFundMe page, Dumpa said that Aditya had recently completed his master’s degree from Florida State University. He said that Aditya had severe head injuries with brain contusions. He was currently receiving critical treatment at Temple University Hospital, and his recovery was expected to require extensive care, with costs projected to reach around $2,50,000, he said.
“Aditya lives with friends in Delaware, while his parents remain in India. He had recently cleared his interview with Amazon and was awaiting his offer letter. However, with no medical insurance and his family unable to support these overwhelming medical expenses, Aditya urgently needs financial assistance to continue his treatment and get the care he needs for a full recovery,” Dumpa said.
So far, 3,500 people have contributed nearly $1,37,000.
“Every dollar donated will go directly towards covering Aditya’s essential hospital expenses and ongoing care. Your support will play a vital role in helping him through this challenging time and in easing the financial burden on his family,” Dumpa said.
