Hyderabad: After declaring the Telangana govt’s intention to scrap Hyderabad’s Green Pharma City project earlier this year during BioAsia 2024, industries and IT minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu on Wednesday said infrastructure development on the project is moving rapidly, with industries expected to begin setting up shop there within a year.
The minister said five major pharma companies—Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Aurobindo Pharma, Hetero, Laurus Labs, and MSN Pharmaceuticals—have already committed to significant investments in the upcoming 19,000-acre project, which is being touted as India’s answer to China’s humongous scale. Sridhar Babu said this after a review meeting with representatives of these five leading Hyderabad-based pharma companies.
He said in line with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision, the dedicated Pharma City project was now coming up as part of Future City, and these five pharma players alone were together ready to employ over two lakh people and set up facilities on 50-acre plots each in the initial phase. He apprised the pharma sector representatives about the latest developments at the project site, including the ongoing work to ensure uninterrupted water and electricity supply.
“Plans are in place to construct a world-class, 300-foot-wide highway from Kongara Kalan to the Regional Ring Road. The notification for this project has been issued, and the tendering process is expected to conclude by June next year,” he said.
He also assured the gathered representatives of pharma companies about the setting up of a parallel Metro rail system to boost connectivity.
