Vijayawada: Palnadu police have stepped up investigation into the murder of Sk Rashid, a member of the YSRCP youth wing, in Vinukonda town on Wednesday night.
Rashid, the victim, and Sk Jilani, the accused, were once close friends and part of the same gang led by a person named Khan. However, their relationship soured after Jilani attacked someone close to Rashid.Both individuals have criminal records — Rashid had two cases registered against him, while Jilani has three. They had even lodged complaints against each other. When their gang leader, Khan, supported Rashid and his associates, Jilani quit YSRCP and joined TDP to protect himself from rival attacks.
Remarkably, the rivalry between Rashid and Jilani began on the first Ekadasi (Toli Ekadasi) last year in July, and the murder also took place on the same day this year. The rivalry between the two is said to have escalated during the Konda Tirunallu festival in Vinukonda on Toli Ekadasi last year, when Jilani attacked one of Rashid’s close associates with a beer bottle. In retaliation, Rashid and his friends vandalised Jilani’s house, beat up his brother, and set his bike on fire. Though Jilani filed a complaint, police allegedly did not register a case due to Rashid’s connection with Khan, a rowdy-sheeter who had the backing of the local MLA.
