The all-new Skoda Kylaq subcompact SUV has finally made its global debut, along with the announcement of its starting price – Rs 7.89 lakh. The entire price list and variant details will be revealed in the coming months. Booking windows will open on 2nd December, and the model will make its first public appearance on 17th January at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show, with deliveries beginning from 27th January. It’s the third Skoda to be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, following the Kushaq and Slavia. In the sub-4 metre SUV segment, the Kylaq will face competition from several models, including the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Maruti Brezza.

Featuring Skoda’s ‘Modern Solid’ design language, the Kylaq comes with the brand’s signature radiator grille, new LED projector headlamps with a split setup, and LED DRLs placed above. It also sports a dual-tone bumper with cladding and a pronounced bonnet at the front. Some of its other design highlights include 17-inch rims, blacked-out alloy wheels, squarish wheel arches, roof rails in a black finish, a shark-fin antenna, a thick C-pillar, pentagon-shaped taillamps with LED inserts, and a hefty rear bumper.

Compared to the Kushaq, the Skoda Kylaq has a 230mm shorter wheelbase, measuring 2,566mm. Its overall length is 3,995mm. This subcompact SUV offers a ground clearance of 189mm. The new Skoda compact SUV boasts a best-in-class boot space of 446 litres, which can be further expanded by folding the rear seats in a 60:40 split. The interior shares a strong resemblance with the Kushaq. The Skoda Kylaq features a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system running on a new operating system, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a two-spoke steering wheel, a climate control panel, and side AC vents. The infotainment unit supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new Skoda compact SUV also offers a wireless phone charger, a single-pane sunroof, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, keyless entry, and powered seat adjustment for both the driver and front passenger. The standard safety kit of the Kylaq includes six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat mounts, and an electronic differential lock.

A single 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine will be available. The Skoda Kylaq will offer both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The turbocharged gasoline engine delivers a claimed power output of 115bhp and 178Nm of torque. The new Skoda compact SUV is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 10.5 seconds.
