Hyderabad: A 24-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh landed in Hyderabad on Wednesday after returning from Bahrain where was allegedly subjected to physical torture. The woman was rescued by the Indian Embassy in Bahrain following her multiple requests for help. Sirisha Paka, the victim woman, was working as a housemaid at a local family there, who assaulted her, denied food and sleep.
“We are greatly relieved that my sister has been rescued and she’s back in India. We would like to thank the embassy and everyone who showed concern for her and pursued her case,” said Maji Devi, sister of the victim.
Agent Did Not Respond
From here, Sirisha will travel to her native place – Rajahmundry in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. The victim lost both of her parents earlier, and studied up to class 7. Sirisha went to Bahrain on March 5 this year to work as a housemaid. But when she was assaulted there, she contacted her agent who sent her there.
She approached her telling that she had been tortured there, and wanted to go home, but the agent did not respond. Sirisha also sent video to her sister, explaining the physical torture she was subjected to.
After Majji Devi wrote to the authorities in Bahrain and the Embassy of India, the Pravasi Bharatiya Legal Team in Bahrain intervened to address her sister’s situation.
