Naidu Promises No Future Power Tariff Hikes in Andhra Pradesh | Vijayawada News

No power tariff hike in future, says Naidu

Vijayawada: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that his govt will ensure that there will be no power tariff increase in future.
He said that the previous YSRCP regime was responsible for discoms filing tariff revision proposals with the APERC. He promised that he would see that discoms would not seek any further tariff revision in future.
The CM inaugurated the newly constructed power sub-station in Tallayapalem in Amaravati area. The new sub-station is expected to provide uninterrupted power supply to upcoming offices and industries in the capital city.
Addressing the gathering, Naidu said that govt has initiated measures to modernize power infrastructure. He said that govt would not impose any burden on consumers to take up development works. He said that he had initiated the first-generation reforms in energy sector in 1998 and modernized almost all sub-stations by 2004. He said that they switched over to solar energy after he assumed charge as CM in 2014.
He said that the YSRCP govt suspended the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) made with renewable energy companies causing financial loss in the state. He said that power utilities were left with 1.25 lakh crore debts. He said that govt was compelled to pay 9,000 crore to power companies without using a single unit following the HC directive. He said abrupt suspension of PPAs by previous regime was the reason for such massive burden on the state exchequer.
He said that YSRCP govt revised the power tariff at least nine times in the last five years and imposed a burden of 32,166 crore on the public.
The CM said that govt has started an ultra modern gas insulated sub-station in the capital which is an indication of the govt’s commitment to upgrade power infrastructure. He said that 12 sub-stations and 10 transmission line works would be completed within a year to provide 24×7 supply.
