Hyderabad:A cyber scammer who posed as a chief strategic analyst at Axis Direct Securities Limited duped a private employee, 33, of Rs 16.25 lakh on the pretext of offering 3-5% interest.

The scammer with an intention to trap the victim initially transferred Rs 25,000 to win the trust of the victim. The scammer claimed he will be participating in the “World Top Investor Competition” on behalf of Axis Direct and lured the victim to join online platform called “AXIS I GLOBAL PRO,” set up under the scammer’s guidance.

Initially, the victim received some returns. The scammer informed him through WhatsApp call that his account had been frozen and pressured to make further payments to release his funds

During which the scammer collected the victim’s ID proof, created an international trading account and made the victim deposit Rs 16.25 lakh in his account, police said. The victim approached the city cyber crime team and lodged a complaint.
