HYDERABAD: A spurned husband who sneaked into his wife‘s home to kill her for deserting him ended up murdering her parents who tried to stop him in Chinnaraopet in Warangal late on Wednesday night.
His wife, Deepika (19), received stab wounds in the hands, and her brother suffered a minor slash on his neck.
Police nabbed the accused, Mekkala Nagaraju, an auto driver, on Thursday.
Nagaraju and Deepika had eloped and married in Nov last year after her parents objected to their inter-community union.
Nagaraju is a SC and Deepika a tribal. The couple’s romance had bloomed after Deepika first met him as a passenger in his auto.
After the marriage they shifted to Hyderabad, but within two months Deepika had a change of heart and left Nagaraju for her parents’ home. Nagaraju had been upset since then, police said.
Couple stabbed multiple times
On Wednesday night, Deepika’s father Banothu Srinu (48), and mother Suguna (42), sleeping outside their house in Chinnaraopet village, woke up with a start finding Nagaraju looking for Deepika with a long knife in his hand.
A scuffle ensued and Nagaraju stabbed the couple multiple times, police said. Suguna died on the spot, while Srinu succumbed to injuries in hospital.
Hearing commotion, villagers rushed to the house, giving Deepika and her brother an opportunity to escape Nagaraju’s fury. Nagaraju too left the spot after the murders.
Warangal police later tracked him and arrested him.
