Three men were arrested near Bio-Diversity Park in Hyderabad on Wednesday, November 6, for the gang rape of a 50-year-old woman in Madhura Nagar on the night of November 4. The accused—Chandu Chauhan (24), Ajay Kumar (25), and Mohd Arif (35)—are natives of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and work as painters and construction laborers in the city.
According to the police, the victim, a laborer from the Lambada tribe, was targeted by the accused, who had been stalking her for days. On the night of the incident, they offered her Rs 500 to wash their clothes and took her to their residence in an auto. Once there, they beat and sexually assaulted her.
The victim’s screams were heard by a neighbor, who alerted others and helped rescue her. The accused fled the scene when they heard footsteps approaching. The police registered a case of wrongful confinement, attempt to murder, and gang rape against the three men.
The Madhura Nagar police arrested the accused within a day of receiving the complaint. The men were presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody, according to a statement from the assistant commissioner of police, Panjagutta division, West Zone, Hyderabad.
