Hyderabad’s BC Survey Reveals 243 Caste Codes for Families | Hyderabad News


BC survey: 243 caste codes in questionnaire

Hyderabad: The actual BC survey during when the enumerators will take feedback from families on the questionnaire will begin from Saturday.
As per the detailed schedules on the questionnaire, the caste survey has assigned codes to a total of 243 castes which includes upper castes in the state. Family members are supposed to indicate the code number corresponding to their caste in the questionnaire.
A total of 59 castes were given codes in SC category, 32 in ST category, 18 in OC (other castes) category, and the rest in BC sub-categories of A, B, C, D and E. BC community codes are highest at 134.
Interestingly, Buddhists and Jains have been classified as OCs or forward castes with a total of 18 castes listed under this category. Buddhists and Jains were also given separate codes in the religion category as well. Additionally, Christian converts from Scheduled Castes have also been categorised as BC-C, while the descendants of destitute persons and orphans fall under the BC-A category.
In Karnataka, AP and Bihar, the caste survey did not have more than 18 questions whereas Telangana’s questionnaire has 75 questions in all.
