Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) Telangana seized a huge stock of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, illegally stocked in two private hospitals in the city. During the joint operation with the prohibition and excise department conducted over Nov 7 and 8, officials seized fentanyl, ketamine and midazolam injections – used as anaesthetics — from the Bakoban Hospital in Chandrayangutta and BVK Reddy Hospital in Warasiguda, Secunderabad.
“The seized drugs included 50 mcg/ml ampoules of fentanyl injections, which were illegally stocked for sale at the hospitals without an NDPS licence,” said an official adding that they also found 50 mg/ml vials of psychotropic substances like ketamine hydrochloride injections and 10 ml vials of midazolam injections 1 mg/ml.
“During the raid, narcotic drugs were seized from the possession of the accused Abdul Rahman owner of Bakoban Hospital and T Naresh Kumar, at BVK Reddy Hospital. Cases were registered under the NDPS Act at Charminar and Musheerabad prohibition and excise stations. Further investigation will be carried out and action will be taken as per the law against all the accused,” said VB Kamalasan Reddy, director general, DCA Telangana. He further said that abuse of narcotic drugs poses significant health risks.
“Addiction to narcotic injections is highly dangerous. It carries a high risk of coma and death due to respiratory depression and overdose. Stringent action will be taken in cases of unlicensed activities involving narcotic drugs,” the official added.
