Kia is all set to expand its Indian product portfolio with an all-new sub-4-metre SUV in the coming months. While the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the name and details of the upcoming model, it’s likely to be called the ‘Kia Clavis’ or ‘Kia Syros’. It will be the sixth offering and Kia’s first Made-in-India SUV under its 2.0 strategy. With this new transformation plan, the South Korean automaker aims to achieve a 10 percent market share by 2028. The Kia 2.0 strategy focuses on enhanced technology, increased space, and upgraded safety.
Let’s take a look at the key details of the upcoming Kia compact SUV that we know so far. The official sketches confirm that the subcompact SUV will have a tall-boy stance with L-shaped taillamps mounted on the pillars, roof rails, and flush-style door handles. There will also be a high-mounted stop lamp and bumper-integrated brake lights.
The Kia Clavis/Syros has been spotted during its test rounds with heavy to semi-camouflage, revealing some intriguing details. The new Kia compact SUV will feature a ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, vertically stacked projector headlamps with LED elements, LED DRLs, and four-spoke alloy wheels.
Media reports suggest that the Kia Clavis/Syros will address the congested rear seat space of the Sonet. Its tall-boy stance will ensure plenty of headroom for all occupants. Interior details are scant at this point. However, the compact SUV is likely to offer features such as a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch dual-screen setup (one for the infotainment system and one for instrument functionalities), leatherette upholstery, a Bose audio system, and ventilated and powered front seats.
The higher trims could be exclusively offered with the ADAS suite. Additional safety features could include multiple airbags, front parking sensors, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, rear disc brakes, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
As far as the engine is concerned, the new Kia compact SUV will be offered with three powertrains – petrol, diesel, and EV. The petrol and diesel versions will come with a 118bhp, 1.0L turbo engine and a naturally aspirated motor, and a 1.5L unit, respectively. Specifications of the Kia Clavis/Syros EV are still under wraps.
