Hyderabad: Malkajgiri BJP MP Etela Rajendar urged authorities to expedite the construction of flyovers from Secunderabad’s Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Shamirpet, and Paradise to Kompally. He also recommended the reduction of the road width from 60 metres to reduce the impact on residential properties and businesses.
The MP stressed the need for the immediate release of funds for road construction projects, citing severely damaged roads near railway junctions that require urgent repairs, during a meeting of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board.
Chaired by Brigadier N.V. Nanjundeshwar, the meeting approved 34 issues, following deliberations. Board CEO D. Madhukar Naik, nominated member J. Ramakrishna and Deputy CEO Vijay Kumar Balan Nair were present. The construction of elevated corridors was a major topic of discussion.
Another issue was the state’s acquisition of `330 crore worth cantonment land for the elevated corridors, for which compensation is expected from the state government. Rajendar advised against depositing this compensation in Central government accounts, arguing that allocating the funds to the cantonment would ensure swift development.
Ramakrishna proposed a special meeting on November 13 to discuss solution to the persistent water shortage problem. Residents of affected colonies and settlements were urged to file complaints by November 12. Ramakrishna also highlighted the `40 crore due pending from the state government to the SCB.
The need for expansion and better utilisation of community halls to provide employment opportunities for local youth was also raised. Rajendar directed the board to expedite efforts to provide skilling options for the area’s unemployed youth.
