Guntur SP Denies Special Privileges for Borugadda Anil in Jail |

No special privileges to Borugadda Anil in jail: Guntur SP

Vijayawada: Guntur SP Satish Kumar emphasised that the law treats everyone equally and dismissed any notion of ‘special privileges’ being extended to specific detainees.
Speaking about the provisions made for remand prisoner Borugadda Anil Kumar in jail, the SP clarified that the facilities provided were basic, as per court orders.
Sfter Anil Kumar’s arrest, he was taken to the govt hospital for a medical examination, where he reported issues like gas, respiratory problems, and diabetes, the SP said. When the police requested a three-day custody for further investigation, Anil mentioned these medical issues to the court, which then directed the police to provide necessary accommodations. “According to the court’s orders, we ensured minimal facilities for Anil Kumar,” SP Satish said.
It may be recalled that certain police personnel allegedly took Anil Kumar to a hotel for food, resulting in disciplinary action against them. Seven police personnel, including an RSI, were suspended as per orders from the Guntur Range IG Sarvashreshta Tripati. The SP also assured that strict disciplinary action would be taken against any officer found violating departmental rules.
In a crackdown on offensive social media posts, Guntur Additional SP Ramana Murthy reported that two individuals were arrested and remanded for posting morphed images of prominent leaders on social media. Six cases have been registered against individuals making inappropriate posts, leading to multiple arrests.
Cases were registered against Velamuri Sudharani, also known as Peddireddy Sudharani, and Kallam Harikrishna Reddy for uploading morphed images of prominent leaders. Both were arrested based on complaints and now face legal consequences. Sudharani has nine cases registered in Guntur, Palnadu, and Prakasam, while Harikrishna Reddy has a history of SC/ST cases and six additional charges in Guntur.
Borugadda Anil Kumar, with 17 registered cases across Guntur, Anantapuram, Krishna, and Palnadu districts, was also recently arrested for defamatory social media posts. Following his arrest, he was remanded and is currently held at Rajahmundry Central Jail.
Police also arrested former MP Nandigam Suresh, who has ten cases against him, including one related to Section 302 of the IPC. SP Satish Kumar initiated a fresh investigation into these cases, resulting in Suresh’s arrest and remand in Guntur district jail.
In light of a 2021 attack on TDP office, police identified 120 suspects and arrested 28 persons. Among these, some obtained bail, while others surrendered or sought anticipatory bail from the courts. The govt has since transferred the investigation to the CID for further action.
Guntur police have also intensified their focus on monitoring habitual offenders. Surveillance has led to the arrest of 26 individuals, with further actions planned for others engaged in illegal activities.
