Guntur: To ameliorate life in the city, Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) is planning to launch a night food street along eat street stretch in Vijayawada. GMC authorities wanted to launch the food street after completion of the road maintenance works.
According to the draft plan, the night food street will come up in the Brodiepet fourth line, wthe busiest commercial zone in the city. However, night food bazar will commence operations around 11pm and continue till 4am of the next day.
“Since almost all the commercial establishments will be closed by 10pm, it might not be a big task to open the food street at 11pm. We will take all precautions with regards to the safety and security of people visiting the place,” said GMC commissioner Puli Srinivasulu.
The GMC commissioner added that they will create makeshift parking lots in the second lane in two ends and have people walk up to the fourth lane.
He explained that they would allow vendors only after police verification and submission of proper documents for identification. The stalls will be closed around 4am so that they could depute sanitation teams to clean the entire street by 5am.
“Not even a piece of waste-paper will be left on the street by morning. While vendors themselves will take measures to keep the garbage aside, the sanitation teams will complete the remaining job in an hour in the morning,” said commissioner.
He, however, mentioned that he would initiate discussion with the stakeholders after getting a green signal from the public representatives, district collector and SP. He felt that the night food street will not only help meet the needs of people returning homes late in the night but also make some night working people enjoy hygienic food on the street. Besides, it would also help generate employment for several dozens of food makers.
“We will put all the safety measures in place before the launch,” said the GMC commissioner.
It is mentioned that Srinivasulu had already launched a massive drive to bulldoze the ramps and structures on the drains, particularly in the commercial zones, to prevent the floods in the city. After making the storm water drains obstacle free, the GMC commissioner decided to take up road maintenance works across the city.
“Guntur will be made 100 percent clean city within three months. I will show the results,” asserted Srinivasulu.
