Hyderabad: The Government City College, which is over 100 years old, has achieved a rare honour by bagging the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) A grade, the highest grade, reflecting the high quality of education.
The college secured a CGPA of 3.67 on a seven-point scale and created a history among the government institutions in the State. This accreditation will be valid for a period of five years. Earlier, Sri Rama and Bhaktha Gentela Narayana Rao Government Degree College Khammam secured the NAAC A grade with a 3.64 CGPA score.
Governance, teaching, full-fledged faculty, curriculum adapted to contemporary global needs, and innovative courses with immediate employability focus, among other reasons, aided the college in bagging the highest NAAC grade.
Participating in an event organised to celebrate the grade on Saturday, Collegiate Education joint director Prof G Yadagiri said Centennial Government City College achieved the rare honour with NAAC’s highest grade.
Another Joint Director, Rajendra Singh, said the guidance of principal Prof P Bala Bhaskar, IQAC coordinator Dr Neeraja, besides collective efforts of faculty, non-teaching staff and students, helped the college get recognition at the national level.
Prof Bala Bhaskar said apart from fulfilling the recommendations of the previous NAAC team, a new building has been acquired with the college’s own funds. In these five years, the college has not only organised many international and national conferences and workshops but also played a vital role in implementing a structured approach for the all-round development of students, he added.
The NAAC grading is done based on the seven-point criterion – curricular aspects, teaching-learning and evaluation, research, innovations and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, student support and progression, governance, leadership and management, and institutional, values and best practices.
