Hyderabad: A gas explosion at a popular restaurant in the city, Telangana Spice Kitchen, on Road No.1, Jubilee Hills on Sunday caused panic among local residents. The explosion sent kitchen equipment and debris flying into nearby residential areas while one person was injured.
According to Jubilee Hills police, the gas explosion damaged four huts and a couple of vehicles in the vicinity. One 30-year-old woman suffered injuries when she was hit by flying debris during the incident.
The affected huts, being temporary structures, sustained severe damage with collapsed roof tiles falling onto household belongings.
“At around 5 am, a gas leak occurred in the kitchen area. The lack of proper exhaust ventilation caused pressure accumulation, which ultimately resulted in an explosion. The injured woman lodged a formal complaint, and we registered a case against the management for negligence and initiated an investigation into the matter,” said detective inspector R Madhusudhan. Clues teams reached the spot and collected some materials to assess the exact cause that led to the blast.
Meanwhile, the restaurant will be closed for two weeks to carry out the repair works.
