Police CI Suspended for Granting Illegal Favours to Inmate Amid Controversy | Vijayawada News

CI in soup for granting favours to prisoner

Vijayawada: Guntur range inspector general Sarvashresth Tripathi issued orders placing Arundelpet CI K Srinivas Rao on vacancy reserve (VR) status following accusations that remand prisoner Borugadda Anil Kumar received special privileges, allegedly breaching standard protocol.
Guntur SP Satish Kumar addressed the incident, clarifying that Anil Kumar’s medical complaints, including respiratory issues, gas, and diabetes, were managed in accordance with court orders, ensuring only basic facilities were provided. Anil was taken for a medical examination following his arrest, and the court subsequently directed police to accommodate his health requirements.
However, allegations surfaced that certain officers escorted Anil Kumar to a hotel for a meal, resulting in the suspension of seven police personnel, including an RSI, as ordered by IG Tripathi. SP Satish emphasised that any breach of departmental rules would result in strict disciplinary action.
In a parallel crackdown on offensive social media activities, Guntur additional SP Ramana Murthy reported the arrest and remand of two individuals for posting morphed images of political leaders.
Velamuri Sudharani and Kallam Harikrishna Reddy were among those arrested.
