The Beatles have been nominated for two Grammy awards this year nearly 50 years after the band’s split up.
The Beatles’ song “Now and Then” is up for Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance. It is up against artists like Beyonce, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and Green Day.
Now and Then was recorded by John Lenon in the late 1970s and it started as a demo but was never released. In 2021, Paul McCartney used AI to clean up poor sound quality from the recording with the help of filmmaker Peter Jackson and his team.
Although machine learning was used, “Now and Then” falls within the rules of Grammy’s. “Only human creators are eligible to be submitted for consideration for, nominated for, or win a GRAMMY Award,” stated the guidelines.
“A work that features elements of A.I. material is eligible in applicable Categories,” it further stated.
The 67th Grammy awards is set to take place on February 2, 2025 and nominations for the awards were announced on Friday, which includes new Indian as well as India-origin names.
