Hyderabad: Two teenagers — Inthiyaz Khan and Nayab, both 18 year — died and five of their friends sustained minor injuries after a car in which they were travelling veered off the road, flipped multiple times and crashed into trees near Mucherla gate on the Hyderabad-Srisailam highway early on Sunday. The seven youngsters were on their way to Srisailam dam, Rachakonda police said.
All of them are undergraduate students and residents of Umar Colony near Pahadishareef.
The incident occurred when the SUV they were travelling in went out of control and veered off the highway, police said. While the cause of the accident was being probed, police suspect the driver dozed off at the wheel and lost control.
“There is also a possibility that in an attempt to overtake a vehicle, the car went off the road, resulting in the crash,” Hyderabad Green Pharma City police station house officer (SHO) L Krishnam Raju said. According to police, the friends hired an SUV and set out to Srisailam on a long drive to visit the dam. One of them, Abdul Sameer, was behind the wheel. On the Srisailam highway, when they were nearing the Mucherla gate, the vehicle first veered off the road on the right, dragged for around 30 metres, flipped multiple times, and came to a halt in an upside-down position after crashing into the trees on the roadside.
“The deceased persons received severe injuries and died while being shifted to hospital, while others, including Sameer, sustained injuries in the incident and are out of danger,” the station house officer said.
A case of accidental death has been registered and investigation is underway, he added.
