After 10.5 years & 2.6 lakh km, we exchanged our Innova with a Hycross

The biggest advantage over the old Innova has been the ride comfort which leaves you fatigue-free.

BHPian peugeot96 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

The family Innova while still running like the proverbial Swiss watch was closing in on 10.5 yrs and 260k km of loyal service. At this juncture I receieved my orders to look for a suitable replacement.

My first choice after a multitude of test drives was the Hyundai Tuscon which was easily the best riding and easiest to drive option. The discounts being offered were beyond belief so I won’t mention the amount here. They were also offering a better deal for the Innova exchange. Toyota were offering ZERO discounts on the hycross and made no commitment to delivery schedules initially. The hybrid variant was ruled out since any efficiency advantage will not be reflected well in a combined cycle and the price difference I felt was excessive. The Hycross while being a monocoque construction was still cumbersome to drive compared to the Tucson.

Standing against all this was the gold plated commitment to customer service which we received from the particular Toyota dealer’s service team for 10.5 yrs. Even if I showed up at 9pm with a malfunctioning headlight, it would be fixed after calling back an advisor and technician. The family car would also be driver driven so the yatch like dimensions were not going to bother me too much. Hence I reluctantly recommended the Hycross. The booking was made and the Innova exchanged.

The model chosen was the GX option variant which was the petrol only car with a bunch of features thrown in to distinguish it from the lower taxi style variants.
A 360 degree camera feature, alloys, etc came along with the GX(O). The fact that I was a loyal customer who payed without fuss for every expensive service bill worked in my favour with delivery happening hardly a month after the booking. The car was registered and delivered to us without a single scratch, dent or any other blemish. As an auto engineer in a previous avatar, I made sure of a careful PDI fro my end but honestly with Toyota that is not a compulsory rite of purchase.

The car has so far been bullet proof with 500km on the odometer. The steering is super light at low speeds which makes up for the xxxl dimensions. The all round discs are a treat and bring a added active safety advantage over the old Innova. The led headlamps are quite hopeless in highway conditions especially when it rains. The stock halogens on my Slavia are far far better despite the lower application height. The biggest advantage over the old Innova has been the ride comfort which leaves you fatigue free after sitting in the captains seats for hours together. This is where the monocoque construction plays it hand. As far as driving manners goes I am still a sedan devotee and find no fun in driving this oversized hatchback suv cross Our family like many has a plethora of health issues and the Hycross so far has been a godsend in terms of taking the pain away from the daily commute.

Thanks
