Hyderabad: A 25-year-old daily wager, Fayaz Qureshi, allegedly stabbed his wife Khamar Begum, 23, multiple times and set her on fire at their home in Bandlaguda, Old City on Monday night. She died on the spot. The accused suspected her of having an affair, said Bandlaguda police. The couple have two children aged five and three years.
Police said the couple had married six years ago and were residing at Hashamabad. The couple had frequent quarrels as Qureshi suspected her of having affairs with other men. On Monday night, he returned home and picked up a quarrel with her on the issue.
He stabbed her multiple times with a kitchen knife. When she collapsed on the bed, he went out and collected petrol from his bike. He then doused her in petrol, and set her on fire. Qureshi’s mother and his children were sleeping in the other room. When they raised alarm over the fire, neighbours rushed and rescued them. Though Qureshi reportedly surrendered, police claimed he was on the run and would be arrested soon.
