Vikarabad SEZ protest: Over 30 held for attacking district collector's convoy
Farmers attacked district collector in Telangana’s Vikarabad on Monday

HYDERABAD: A day after violence at Vikarabad district’s Dudyala mandal over acquisition of lands for a proposed ‘pharma village’, the police detained over 30 people for their involvement in the attack on district collector and other government officials.
Additional forces have been deployed in the area, which was hit by protests on Monday from farmers opposing the proposed special economic zone (SEZ) for pharmaceutical companies.
Police are analysing video footage related to the clash and are also working on other technical details to find out who was present in the area at the time of the attack.
While IG Multi Zone II V Satyanarayana and SP Vikarabad K Narayana Reddy are camping in the area to monitor the situation, DGP Jitender also held a review meeting with the intelligence and other senior officials over the incident and the chain of events that led to it.
As per a senior police official, the situation is currently under control; however, force deployment continues as a precautionary measure.
Police are also keeping a tab on the entry of outsiders into the affected areas.
In continuation of the investigation, police are also closely monitoring posts on social media platforms.
During the incident, protesters, including women, attacked district collector Prateek Jain and Kodangal Area Development Authority chairman Venkat Reddy and damaged their vehicles.

While the collector and other senior officials accompanying him escaped unhurt in the incident, Venkat Reddy was severely injured and is currently undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.
A DSP rank officer who tried to cover the officials from the protesters was also severely injured.
Collectorate employees also staged a protest at the collectorate demanding the arrest of those involved in Monday’s attack on the district collector and other officials.
