Volkswagen currently has three models in its Indian product portfolio, including a midsize sedan (Virtus) and two SUVs – the Taigun midsize and Tiguan premium 5-seater. Considering the exponential growth of the SUV segment, the German carmaker plans to expand its model lineup with the Tera sub-4 metre SUV and Tayron three-row SUV in the next couple of years. Let’s take a look at the key details of these two upcoming Volkswagen SUVs.

Volkswagen Tayron

The new Volkswagen Tayron SUVwhich recently made its world debut, is slated to arrive in India towards the end of 2025. It’s essentially the replacement for the Tiguan Allspace and will compete with the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian. Compared to the Tiguan, the Tayron SUV has a 231mm longer wheelbase, accommodating a third row of seats and an additional 198 litres of boot space.

Specifications of the India-spec VW Tayron are still under wraps.

Volkswagen Tera

The Volkswagen Tera will be based on the Skoda Kylaqwhich is due in the coming months. Both models will share features, powertrains, platforms, and components; however, the Tera will carry VW’s familiar design language. It will be Volkswagen’s first sub-4 metre SUV offering, expected to hit the roads sometime in 2026. The Tera SUV will feature a distinct front grille, revised front and rear bumpers, new lights, and a redesigned tailgate. A few unique elements inside the cabin will differentiate both SUVs. Similar to the Skoda Kylaq, the Volkswagen Tera will come with a 115bhp, 1.0L direct-injection turbo petrol engine.
