Vijayawada: The railway police arrested one Dev Kumar, hailing from Bihar, in connection with the murder of 52-year-old loco pilot D Ebenezer at Vijayawada railway station. The incident occurred around 2 am on Wednesday when Ebenezer was on duty between Vijayawada railway station and F cabin.
According togovt railway police (GRP) inspector J V Rama, Dev hit Ebenezer on his head with an iron rod in an attempt to extort money. The blow caused Ebenezer to fall onto the railway tracks, leading to severe injuries. Despite medical treatment, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
Police initiated an investigation, using CCTV footage to track down the accused. A special team was formed, and after an extensive search operation, Dev was apprehended near Appi Yard on Saturday night. During interrogation, he revealed that he had come to Vijayawada seeking employment but became a drug addict. To support his addiction, he began robbing people at night and resorted to violence against those who resisted.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
