Hyderabad: A fire broke out in a temple at Nakirekal town in Nalgonda district on Thursday morning. Temple priest Abhishek Dikshit, who was performing rituals at the temple, sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Police ruled out any foul-play and urged people not to believe in rumours.
Police said when the priest was cleaning the sanctum sanctorum to prepare for the Karthika Pournami to be observed on Friday, fire from a lamp came in contact with his clothes.
In an attempt to save himself, he tried to put out the fire and in ther process he suffered burns on his hands and legs. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he is out of danger.
Abhishek hails from Uttar Pradesh and has been working in the temple for the past few years.
