Coming to the reviews, ‘Kanguva’ received good reviews initially after fan shows, but later the reviews started criticizing the film for its weak story, performances, and other factors. ‘Kanguva’ was one of the most awaited films of Suriya and with these mixed reports flooding in, it’s unsure whether Siva’s directorial may be able to mint magnificent numbers or have a long run in cinemas.
ETimes gave 2.5 out of 5 stars for the Suriya starrer. Our review hailed Suriya’s performance in the movie even though the plot was convoluted. ETimes review reads, “There are a few moments that impress us like the fight sequences, the metaphorical moon and birds, the reason behind Kanguva wanting to protect the child, and more. There are also glimpses of how Francis could be the reincarnation of Kanguva – even with the sea of differences they share, there are hints that connect them. Like how Kanguva forgives and protects someone who tries to kill him, Francis, too, goes out of his way to save his ex-girlfriend, who minutes ago wanted him dead. Suriya also impresses as Kanguva – the difference he brings to his two characters in terms of body language is quite intriguing. And after a point, it becomes a one-man show, with Suriya solely carrying the entire film on his shoulders.”
