Maharashtra Duo Arrested in Massive Part-Time Job Scam | Hyderabad News

Two from Maharashtra held in part-time job scam

Hyderabad: Cyber crime sleuths in Hyderabad have arrested two persons from Maharashtra for their alleged involvement in duping several people on the pretext of providing part-time online jobs.
Cyber crime sleuths said that Krishna Babanrao Pawar and his associate Ramakant Jivan Dhanawate from Ahmednagar were arrested from Gachibowli on Saturday after police got to know that they had reached Hyderabad from Maharashtra.
Nearly a month ago, the police received a complaint in which the victim alleged that he had received a message on Telegram offering a part-time job. The fraudsters asked the victim to register on a website and provided him with a login. “At first, the victim was cautious and invested small amounts. After getting the promised return, the accused forced him to increase his investment to get high profits,” police said, adding that the victim invested a total of Rs 1.60 lakh.
On the website, the victim was shown huge profits, more than double his investment. When he decided to withdraw the earnings, the accused did not process his request. Suspecting fraud, he approached the police, who registered a case.
Apart from this case, the two accused were involved in 140 cases in different parts of India. Out of the 140 cases, nine were registered in Telangana.
The police seized a laptop, 11 cheque books, 10 mobile phones and other items from the accused. The accused have been booked for cheating and violating the Information Technology Act.
