Bhavani Island: A Festive Haven for Nature Lovers in Andhra Pradesh |

Vijayawada: The city and its surrounding areas were abuzz with activity as locals and tourists celebrated the auspicious Telugu month of Karthika with Vanabhojanam (garden parties).
Bhavani Island on the Krishna emerged as a favourite destination, drawing large crowds for family picnics and cultural gatherings.
Karthika is revered as a month of harmony with nature, with families traditionally engaging in outdoor gatherings, offering prayers to trees, and enjoying vegetarian meals.
Bhavani Island, a prominent tourist attraction in Vijayawada, witnessed thousands of visitors availing of special tourism packages. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department enhanced the experience with boat rides and freshly prepared meals served on-site.
“Despite the damages caused by recent floods, Bhavani Island was swiftly restored, making it a convenient and enjoyable spot for family picnics,” said Koppula Narayana, a tourist from Khammam.
Meanwhile, Nagaravana in Kothuru Tadepalli also hosted significant crowds. The Forest Department ensured safety by setting up snake rescue teams and restricting access to prohibited areas. Similarly, the historic Kondapalli Fort saw a bustling weekend with special arrangements made to accommodate the influx of visitors.
To address environmental concerns, the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) implemented measures to manage waste left by tourists. However, despite these efforts, some visitors were found discarding plastic and thermocol plates irresponsibly. In response, youth volunteers from local colleges stepped up to clean tourist spots and raise awareness about maintaining cleanliness in nature reserves.
These festive gatherings not only celebrate tradition but also highlight the need for responsible tourism. Efforts by authorities and volunteers underscore the importance of preserving nature while enjoying its beauty.
