Citizens highlight civic issues in Hyderabad

Traffic congestion near SR Nagar main road due to ongoing civic work.

Streamline civic works

The Ameerpet to SR Nagar main road is always buzzing with traffic and any civic work taken up here need to be done in multiple shifts and completed quickly. A big crater has been dug apparently by the sewerage department and barricaded. Though a little to a side, it does impact the traffic flow.

Authorities should find way of completing such works mainly on the busy stretches to avoid any sort of inconvenience to the road users. Having a clear plan on how and what is a work to be done, deploying more personnel and ensuring better supervision will help in starting and ending these works at the earliest.

Sanitation near ESI Hosptial

Garbage dumped on the roadside near the ESI Hospital.

The road side on the stretch near the ESI Hospital is a real eye sore and makes one feel sad about the sanitation in the city. Garbage, debris and what not is dumped along the road side which spills on the road and not just look dirty and ugly is not hygienic.

Those dumping the waste in such manner should be caught and penalized but at the same time, the municipal staff should also be held accountable for their failure in clearing such piles at the earliest. Citizens should also be more aware and not litter or dump waste in open places and instead contact the municipal staff to get it cleared from their premises.

Serilingampally underbridge road works drag on

Having suffered for decades due to the bad conditions of the road under bridge near Serilingampally MMTS station, we were happy when finally some works were taken up here. The connecting road below the railway track is narrow and struggles to cater the increasing traffic here at the old Mumbai highway point. When it rains, the situation just gets worse.

But the works taken up recently to address the problem have been dragging on making commuting here a nightmarish experience. Huge pits have been dug up and barricaded and road connections cut off. Bikes, autos, cars and trucks coming from all directions and going in all directions clog the underpass and struggle amid fights and abuses between the motorists. We request the authorities concerned to wind up the work at the earliest and ease our commuting woes.

Bus drivers need orientation

The concept of free left is seen on city roads more in violation than adherence. Most signal junctions one can find autos, bikes and cars, waiting for a signal to go straight while occupying space meant for those taking a left turn.

Last evening on the Gachibowli road stretch before IIIT, a RTC bus drove past all the others waiting properly on the right side at the signal and took the space that was left by us for the vehicles intending to take the ISB road. Soon, vehicles looking to take the left were stranded behind the bus and despite repeated honking by them, the bus driver just sat in the cabin ignoring all the mess that he had created.

Traffic police need to be present at the junctions and ensure that the free left is maintained for smoother vehicular movement.

Clear filth at Secunderabad bus station

Pole At Secbad

A pole, tangled with wires, left unattaned on kerbside that is filled with stagnant water near Secunderabad bus stop.

What thousands of pedestrians see every day is apparently not being noticed by the city administration close to the bus stop at Secunderabad. First of all, there is no proper footpath; the kerb side is filled with dirty stagnant water and to top it all, there is a pole that got bent down and is almost touching the ground along with its cables.

Such apathy is not tolerable for the taxpaying citizens. It is the duty of the administration to ensure clean roads, proper pavements and footpaths for pedestrians. Hope the officials take note of this situation at the bus stop and initiate remedial measures.

Ensure eateries provide drinking water

Most hotels these days have done away with providing drinking water to the customers. Instead of providing safe potable water, which is the basic they are expected to provide, the hotels are asking customers to buy bottled water. The ones provided by them are priced at Rs.30 onwards per bottle and in some instances, Rs.60 is also charged.

The authorities concerned should take a note of this fleecing by the eateries and issue strict guidelines that like in earlier times, a patron is provided drinking water without any charge.

Install streetlights at Kalapathar

I am to inform the GHMC authorities that the street lights at ITI Kalapathar are not functioning properly leading to problems for the local residents.

There is a thick green cover around the ITI Kalapather and after sunset the roads are getting pitch dark. The women and children in particular facing problems in walking through the roads during the night and presence of anti-social elements only increase their anxiety.

I request the officials to promptly rectify the street lights and take necessary action.

Clear potholes on Shahgunj road

I would like to inform the authorities concerned that the road stretch between Mahabub Chowk and Fateh Darwaza via Mohd Shukoor Kaman, Shahgunj is in a bad shape.

Big potholes have come on the road and due to frequent stagnation of water the road surface eroded at several places. The motorists are facing problems due to the road conditions. The road covers a distance of two kilometres and there are several hundred families residing on the stretch.

I request the concerned to take up the road repairs and provide solace to the public.

Monitor eateries regularly

This is to bring to the notice of the food safety authorities the mushrooming of eateries in the recent times and the lack of monitoring on them. From road side kiosks to multi-storeyed biryani hotels are cropping up across the city. A moot question is whether the quality being maintained at these places particularly in their kitchens.

The authorities concerned seem to be carrying out occasional inspection as being reported in media. But given the increase in the eateries there is a need for the monitoring and inspection to be a daily and regular affair. Bakeries and sweet shops also should be inspected and action taken where needed.

Provide visitors parking in apartments

I recently went to visit a friend’s family at an apartment in Ayyappa Society but the security guard there stopped me from parking my vehicle inside. He refused to allow the vehicle and showed a pasted notice on the building which read – outside vehicles not allowed.

Such notices are commonly found on the apartments which say that visitors should be parking their vehicles outside. This means, keeping the vehicle parked on the road side and causing obstructions to those driving along that road. I don’t know what exactly are the rules and regulations in these matter but I feel the authorities should ensure that apartment builders leave some space inside for visitors to park their vehicles.
