A mob allegedly threw chairs and raised threat slogans at a rally by BJP leader and former MP Navneet Rana at Amravati in Maharashtra on Saturday, officials said.

The miscreants disrupted the event, vandalised chairs, and caused tension. The police registered a case based on Rana’s complaint and are investigating the incident.

The incident took place last evening in the Khallar village when Rana was campaigning for the BJP candidate from the Daryapur Assembly constituency, Ramesh Bundile.

What Did The Police Say?

Inspector Crime Branch Rural Amravati, Kiran Wankhade said that a dispute broke out between two groups during the rally, however, the situation was later brought under control.

“During the rally, a dispute broke out between two groups. We have registered a case on the complaint of Navneet Rana. The situation is now under control. A police checkpoint has been set up in the village. We request the citizens to not believe in any kind of rumours. Further investigation is underway…” Wankhade said.

Navneet Rana Gives Cops Deadline For Arrest

Rana gave the police a deadline to make arrests in connection with the incident.

“We have filed a complaint. If no one is arrested soon, the whole Hindu community of Amravati will gather here,” she said.

Detailing the incident, she said that they were campaigning peacefully in Khallar when some people started making lewd gestures and also started raising religious slogans. “When our party supporters asked them not to use slang for me, they started throwing chairs,” she alleged.

She accused the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena of orchestrating the chaos at her rally.

“I was addressing the public meeting very peacefully. People started hooting and raising religious slogans… I urged everyone to stay calm and explained that our only aim is to ensure a smooth and peaceful conduct of elections in Maharashtra… The differently-abled people in the meeting would have been the most affected had there been any kind of nuisance… It all started at 5 pm when the party workers started setting up the stage after taking all necessary permissions… Taluka president of Uddhav Thackeray’s party lives in the village, and it was all done by his people… If they give us one, they will get two in return, in the same language that they understand,” she said.
