First launched in 2012, the Renault Duster redefined the midsize SUV segment in India. The model was said to be designed with a 3F strategy that included Fast (adaptation to Indian market requirements), Frugal (on a limited budget), and Fantastic (maintaining quality levels). The SUV has always been recognized for its rugged styling, comfortable interior, and off-road capabilities. While the Duster enjoyed many successful years, its sales gradually started declining, leading to its discontinuation in early 2022 due to poor sales.
Just so you know, India only had the first-generation Duster, and its second-generation model never made it here. Now, skipping a generation, the SUV is all set to return in its third-generation avatar in 2025. Interestingly, this time Renault will also introduce a 7-seater version of the new Duster to challenge competitors like the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar. The 2025 Renault Duster (5-seater) will compete in the midsize SUV segment against rivals such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder.
The design of the new Renault Duster will be largely inspired by the Dacia Duster, which has already been unveiled. Recently, the SUV’s RHD (right-hand drive) version was revealed in South Africa. This same model will make its way to India; however, the India-spec version will offer more features. Read: 9 New Renault Cars Planned For India
The showcased RHD model features a 10.1-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a circular dial for a 4WD selector, a three-spoke steering wheel, and rear AC vents. In India, the 2025 Renault Duster will also include ADAS technology and several other premium features.
Engine specifications for the India-spec 2025 Renault Duster will be revealed closer to its official unveiling. We expect it to come with a petrol engine only. Globally, the SUV is offered with three different powertrains – mild hybrid, strong hybrid, and an LPG fuel option.
