Hyderabad: A 65-year-old temple priest was injured in a mysterious explosion on the temple premises at Laxmiguda in Mailardevpally on Monday morning.
Police said the incident happened when the priest, Sugunaram, was clearing the bushes near the temple compound with a spade. It is suspected that some chemical tins abandoned at the spot and buried there went off while Sugunaram was cleaning the area. The priest is undergoing treatment and out of danger, said police.
According to police, Sugunaram has been the temple priest since its opening two years ago. He stays on the temple premises and takes care of the temple maintenance.
Alerted by locals after the blast, police rushed to the spot and shifted him to a hospital. They cordoned off the area and a dog squad along with a clues team inspected the spot.
“The remnants from the spot have been sent for forensic analysis,” said T Srinivas, ACP, Rajendranagar division. TNN
