Hyderabad: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Monday said the Congress govt was firm on developing a full-fledged airport capable of landing wide-bodied aircraft at Mamnoor airport in Warangal district in 18 months.
“We will also convince the Centre to approve greenfield airports at Bhadradri-Kothagudem and Ramagundam. We want to complete these airport projects in the next four years,” he said.
The minister explained the efforts of chief minister Revanth Reddy and himself in convincing the management of GMR Group, with the help of Union minister Nitin Gadkari, to drop the clause on no airports within 150 km, facilitating the revival of Mamnoor airport.
The first phase of the airport will see the operation of smaller flights, followed by big aircraft in the second phase. Komatireddy said he will meet civil aviation minister K Ramamohan Naidu in Dec to seek clearances and other assistance from the Centre for the airports.
On the expansion of Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway to six lanes, he said the work has been delayed but it will start in Feb once the detailed project report (DPR) is submitted. The Congress govt will speed up work on the Uppal-Medipally elevated corridor as well, he said.
He said the govt has notified the acquisition of 1,895 hectares required for the northern corridor of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) and the process will begin next month.
“We will adopt a humanitarian approach in the land acquisition process,” he said.
