
Hyderabad: To clean up lakes while preserving their area, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has decided to join hands with the state Pollution Control Board (PCB).
On Monday, PCB member secretary G Ravi and HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath met at the PCB office. Both officials discussed measures to prevent industrial waste and pollution from entering lakes and floodwater canals. Surveillance will be strengthened with staff from both departments to prevent industrial waste from being dumped into nalas.
It was also decided to develop a system to instal meters in lakes and nalas to identify company responsible for the chemical waste.
Lake protection committees will be formed with local residents, environmentalists and students to curb pollution through their participation.
