100 units of this EV delivered in Hyderabad. Not Tata Nexon, MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV400

JSW MG Motor India has delivered 100 units of the recently launched electric vehicle (EV), the MG Windsor, in Hyderabad. The popular crossover utility vehicle (CUV) was retailed by RAAM MG dealership of the carmaker.

Launched in India in September, Windsor garnered 15,176 bookings within 24 hours of its commencement. Also, it emerged as the best-selling electric car in India in October with sales of 3,116 units, contributing almost 30% to the total electric car sales in the country during the month.

The Windsor’s handsome sales in Hyderabad were aided by the Telangana government’s new EV policy. Under Telangana Electric Vehicle & Energy Storage Policy 2020-2030, the state government will provide 100% road tax exemption for EVs purchased and registered in the state for the first two years, up to December 31, 2026. As per the government order, this exemption will apply to electric two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles.

The Windsor is offered in three variants — Excite, Exclusive and Essence. Below are their prices (ex-showroom).

  • Excite – Rs 13.50 lakh
  • Exclusive – Rs 14.50 lakh
  • Essence – Rs 15.50 lakh

Under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) initiative, Windsor can be had for Rs 9.99 lakh + Rs 3.5 per kilometre battery rental.

The new EV gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor paired with a 38kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which is IP67-rated. The motor develops 136PS of maximum power and 200Nm of peak torque. The ARAI-certified range on a single full charge is 332km. The car has four driving modes — Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport.
