AR Rahman’s bassist Mohini Dey shared the news of her divorce on the same day as the Oscar-winning composer announced his separation from Saira Banu.
AR Rahman’s bassist Mohini Dey has announced her divorce from her composer husband, Mark Hartsuch. She put out a post on social media on the same day as Rahman and Saira Banu announced their separation. Mohini — who is part of Rahman’s troupe — took to Instagram and shared a statement, which said that although her and Mark’s marriage has come to an end, they will continue to collaborate workwise.
“With a heavy heart, Mark and I announce that we have separated. First, as a commitment to our friends and family, this is a mutual understanding between us. While we remain great friends, we both have decided that we want different things in life and separation through mutual agreement was the best way to proceed,” she said.
“We will still be working on several projects together, including MaMoGi and Mohini Dey groups. We have always prided ourselves on working well together and that will not be stopping any time soon,” the note added.
She concluded her note by urging friends and fans to give the former couple privacy as they work around their new journeys. “The big thing we want to wish is love to everyone out there in the world. We appreciate your support in all of the ways you have given it to us. Please honor the decision we have made by being positive towards us at this time and respecting our privacy. We would appreciate no judgements,” she said.
The 29-year-old bass player belongs to Kolkata and has closely worked with Rahman in over 40 shows worldwide. Besides Rahman, she has collaborated with artists such as Simon Phillips, Guthrie Govan, Marco Minneman, Gergo Borlai, Bumblefoot, Scott Kinsey, Narada Michael Walden, Gino Banks, Mark Hartsuch, Mike Gotthard, Daniel Szebenyi, Nishant Hagjer and Rhythm Shaw.
Meanwhile, AR Rahman and Saira Banu issued a statement about their separation via their lawyer. “This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. AR Rahman emphasise that they have taken this decision out of pain and agony. Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. AR Rahman request privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as they navigate this difficult chapter in their life,” they said in their statement.
The couple was married for 29 years.
