Hyderabad: In a novel initiative in the state beginning from Children’s Day, thousands of students in Adilabad district will now attend an ‘Arogya Patshala‘ (Health School). Everyday for 15 minutes during assembly they will be given lessons aimed at educating them about maintaining physical and mental health.
“It is important that students, especially during exams, are not under stress. The initiative is aimed at giving advice to children on what they should do or not do so that they do not undergo stress even in their everyday life,” said district medical and health officer (DMHO) Narendar Rathod.
The Adilabad collector held a meeting at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad on Tuesday with health, education, women and child welfare, nodal teachers, KGBV schools teachers, junior colleges principal and experts on how the ‘Arogya Patshala’ should be conducted.
Rathod told TOI that a test would be conducted before beginning of the classes to understand how much knowledge the students have and, after four weeks, another test would be held to understand how much they have learned. A schedule has been drawn up with specific topics to be covered six days a week in the schools and colleges.
Another important focus will be on telling students about the harmful effects of drugs and how they should keep themselves away.
“It is all about the overall personality development of a student,” Rathod said.
