BSNL’s 4G Towers Nearing Launch in Adilabad, Telangana
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is on the verge of completing the installation of approximately 150 4G towers in the remote areas of the erstwhile Adilabad district. This initiative aims to significantly enhance telecom connectivity, particularly for indigenous tribal communities residing in these regions, as reported by Telangana Today.
Need for Enhanced Network Access
Residents in hilly and remote areas have faced ongoing challenges with poor network access, often resorting to extreme measures just to make essential phone calls. Many have had to climb trees or trek long distances to establish a connection, especially during emergencies or for facilitating children’s online education. The installation of the new towers, which were sanctioned in 2022, is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming months.
Challenges Faced by Residents:
- Poor Connectivity: Limited mobile network access in hilly terrains.
- Emergency Communication: Difficulty in making urgent calls, especially during crises.
- Online Education: Challenges for children in attending online classes due to lack of connectivity.
Progress on Tower Installations
According to Sridhar, BSNL’s divisional engineer in Bellampalli, the installation process has reached its final stages. Key developments include:
- Electricity Facilities: Infrastructure for power supply has been established.
- 4G Sets Installed: The necessary 4G equipment has been set up in preparation for the towers’ launch.
Status of Tower Installations:
- Tiryani Mandal: Of the 16 towers approved for this region, 12 are ready for inauguration, while the remaining four towers are still under construction.
BSNL’s efforts in Adilabad are part of a broader initiative by the government to improve telecom infrastructure across 390 underserved villages in Telangana. Specific enhancements are also anticipated for other remote villages, including Kerameri, Bejjur, and Lingapur.
Overview of Government Initiatives:
- Targeted Areas: 390 villages identified for telecom infrastructure development.
- Adilabad Focus: 153 towers sanctioned specifically for the composite Adilabad district.
