Vijayawada: Endowments minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy promised that govt will resolve the issue of regularisation of Simhachalam temple land encroachments soon. He said CM Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to provide alternative land to the temple management so that cases filed by temple officials against the encroachers can be withdrawn.
Replying to the concerns raised by legislators from Vizag city during question hour in the assembly on Friday, the minister said govt is keen to resolve the issue at the earliest.
“A policy decision was taken by CM Naidu with regard to the regularisation of encroachments by poor people in Vizag when he was the CM between 2014 and 2019. The then TDP govt also released guidelines on the issue. The temple management also agreed to take alternative land as compensation. But the issue could not be resolved due to mishandling of the matter by the YSRCP govt, which changed the location of the alternative land which complicated the matter. After returning to power, chief minister Naidu told us to expedite the long-pending issue,” the minister said.
“Govt will also discuss the issue with hereditary trustees of Simhachalam temple before taking a final call. We will have to take permission from the high court before taking any decision with regard to regularisation of temple lands. Govt will submit a comprehensive report to the high court and seek its permission to go ahead,” Anam added.
