Free Electricity Initiative Lights Up Over 2,600 Tribal Homes in Visakhapatnam | Vijayawada News

Free power to over 2.6k PVTG homes

Visakhapatnam: Out of the 2,814 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) habitations under the 11 circles of the Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (EPDCL) limits across ASR, Parvathipuram Manyam and neighbouring districts, a total of 2,607 PVTG habitations have been electrified with free power.
To improve the living conditions of the tribal communities, the exercise was taken up under the Union govt’s PM Janajati Adivasi Girijana Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, and only 207 PVTG habitations are yet to be electrified.
As part of the revamped distribution sector scheme under the PM Janman initiative, the power dept staff transported electrical poles, transformers, conductors, and other materials to interior places despite all odds. Prudhvi Teja, CMD of EPDCL, said that he personally inspected the process of laying new lines on the hilly terrains.
“My staff provided power supply to PVTG habitations by crossing three hills in the Palakonda division. They laid lines to habitations that had only five households. We provided power to 22,873 households in the PVTG habitations out of the total 23,807 households,” he said.
