Visakhapatnam: In a pioneering initiative across India, residential units were constructed for descendants of tribal freedom fighters, who were staunch supporters of the revolutionary Alluri Sitarama Raju. These warriors battled against the British forces using traditional weaponry like swords, bows, and arrows whilst leading tribal forces in the 1920s. The Kshatriya Seva Samithi collaborated with NCC, a construction firm owned by Kshatriyas, to provide homes to the descendants of Alluri’s devoted warriors, Gam Mallu Dora and Gam Gantam Dora.
Under Alluri’s leadership, Gam Mallu Dora commanded tribal forces and raided police stations at Krishna Devi Peta (KD Peta), Addateegala, and Annavaram, acquiring ammunition for their operations. British authorities arrested him in 1923. He was initially sentenced to death, but was later commuted to life imprisonment. After serving 14 years in Andaman Jail, he was released. In 1952, he won the Visakhapatnam constituency Lok Sabha seat as an independent candidate alongside Lanka Sundaram. However, Gam Gantam Dora, fell to British forces in the 1920s.
The Kshatriya Seva Samithi actively engaged with a major construction company for this project. Construction works commenced in Oct last year, were inaugurated by the then-Araku MP Madhavi, Paderu MLA Bhagya Lakhsmi, and ITDA project officer Abhishek.
According to Kshatriya Seva Samithi leader Datla Suryanarayana Raju’s statement to TOI, the houses will be allocated to the descendants and relatives of Gantam Dora and Mallu Dora next month. Additionally, a statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju will be installed at the location.
It is mentioned that the project, comprising eleven 2BHK units across two buildings in Koyyuru, is approaching completion. The construction cost is estimated at 2 crore. These residences will be distributed to eleven grandchildren and family members of Mallu Dora and Gantam Dora by the end of Dec.
