Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) team along with the local police busted an interstate drug racket and caught seven persons including five suppliers and two transporters in Kacheguda on Friday.
Officials seized 114 kgs of marijuana, cash and mobile phones, altogether worth Rs 50 lakh from them.
The arrested drug suppliers are B Govind, A Prakash Kumar, M Mohan Rao, R D Hari Prasad and K Ramana. The drug transporters are L Gangadhar and Y Gangadhar. All belong to Anakapalli district in Andhra Pradesh.
According to the police, the suspects are friends and belong to the same neighbourhood. Prakash and Mohan Rao who are aware that Govind has contacts with marijuana cultivators in Chitrakonda forest area of Andhra-Odisha border, offered good commission and procured marijuana in huge quantities from the cultivators.
“As per the demand, Govind purchased marijuana from the cultivators and supplied them to Prakash and Mohan. He bought per kg of marijuana for Rs 1500 and sold it to suppliers for Rs 5000 per kg,” said YVS Sudheendra, DCP, (Task Force and HNEW).
In turn, Hari Prasad sold it to for Rs 10,000 to Ramana, who engaged L Gangadhar and Y Gangadhar to smuggle it to other drug peddlers in Hyderabad on a commission basis.
Here, in Hyderabad Balaji was selling per kg for Rs 25000 to known consumers.
