Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday instructed officials from the irrigation department and the Hyderabad metropolitan water supply and sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to prepare a comprehensive report on the feasibility of bringing 20 TMC of water from the Godavari river to cater to the drinking water needs of Greater Hyderabad.
The CM chaired a high-level review meeting at his residence-cum-camp office to discuss solutions for the city’s growing water demands. The meeting primarily focused on the plan to source 20 TMC of water from the Kondapochamma and Mallannasagar projects.
Revanth directed the officials to assess the feasibility of drawing water from these projects in Siddipet district, with a particular emphasis on conducting a thorough analysis of the costs, water availability, and logistics involved. He urged that a detailed plan be finalized by December 1 to initiate the tendering process for the project.
To ensure the project’s smooth execution, the CM also emphasized the need for close coordination between the irrigation department, HMWSSB, and Mission Bhagiratha officials. He stressed the importance of integrating efforts to ensure a consistent and reliable water supply for Hyderabad. Earlier, CM Revanth had announced plans to link the Godavari river to Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs, which were built during the Nizam era to meet the city’s drinking water needs.
The review meeting was attended by municipal administration principal secretary Dana Kishore, HMWSSB MD Ashok Reddy, irrigation secretary Prashant J Patil and other senior officials.
