Increasing Employment for Tribals: New Petrol Pumps in Agency Areas | Hyderabad News

More petrol pumps in agency areas to boost tribal employment

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy has asked the Girijan Cooperative Corporation and tribal welfare department to set up more petrol pumps in the agency areas.
He also asked the officials to streamline 29 petrol pumps, which were already set up in the agency areas and where tribals were employed.
Tribal welfare secretary A Sarath said Telangana is home to 32 Scheduled Tribes and they constitute 9% of the state population. To ensure regular income and employment for tribals in the agency areas, the tribal welfare department has decided to explore various options to provide employment apart from improving infrastructure, health and education facilities in the agency areas.
The GCC managing director and secretary to the tribal welfare department reviewed the functioning of the petrol bunks and identified the operational glitches and weaknesses in the system. Officials are trying to streamline the process to make them centres of profit.
As part of the streamlining initiative, the department is planning to go for digitisation of the operating system from the traditional method of management control to technology-induced management control, officials said. The future of petrol pumps and the salesmen would be more like TGSRTC-run and jail-run petrol pumps, officials said.
