Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a high-level review meeting with officials from the Irrigation Department and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to address Hyderabad’s growing drinking water needs. The discussion centered on transferring 20 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic Feet) of water from the Godavari River to meet the city’s demand.
The Chief Minister directed officials to prepare a comprehensive report on lifting Godavari water from the Kondapochamma and Mallanna Sagar reservoirs. He also instructed a detailed study of the total cost of water transfer from each reservoir and an assessment of the availability of water in these resources.
To expedite the process, Revanth ordered the authorities to prepare tender procedures by the beginning of next month and suggested close coordination with Mission Bhagiratha officials for seamless implementation.
Senior officials, including Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary to the Municipal Administration Department; Ashok Reddy, Managing Director of the Water Board; and Prashant J. Patil, Secretary to the Irrigation Department, participated in the meeting along with other department officials.
This initiative aims to ensure Hyderabad’s long-term water security while leveraging the state’s irrigation infrastructure.
