Hyderabad: Allaying the fears of house and property owners along the proposed elevated corridors connecting Paradise to Shamirpet and Paradise to Hakimpet, Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sri Ganesh has assured them that the state govt is working to reduce the width of the corridors from 200 ft to 150 ft.
This comes after the Cantonment Board’s earlier proposal to reduce the width was rejected by the HMDA and notifications for land acquisition were issued by the govt. “We understand the concerns of the residents and I have personally taken up the matter with chief minister A Revanth Reddy,” Ganesh said, adding that: “However, we must bear in mind that the acquisition of defence and cantonment land was already a complex process. Any modification now would mean going back to the ministry of defence and the SCB, which could delay the project by years.”
Indicating that an alternative solution was being considered, the MLA added: “We are exploring the possibility of offering plots in prime locations like Gachibowli in exchange for the acquired land.”
However, residents continue to demand that the width of the road be reduced immediately to 150 ft. “No road in the city, be it Jubilee Hills or Gachibowli, is 200 feet wide. Even if the corridors are made, the roads at the entry and exit points will remain at 80 feet, creating a massive bottleneck and defeating the purpose of the corridor,” said Telukunta Satish Gupta, convener of the Rajiv Rahadari Property Owner’s JAC.
Expressing his dissent, Amid Ali, a senior citizen living in the area, said, “We are old people and have no source of income other than rent. Where will we go at this age?”
Another resident said, “We recently bought a property here, paying a premium price and taking loans for it. Where will we go if the government demolishes it? Who will pay our instalments?”
In the meantime, the MLA is scheduled to meet the HMDA commissioner on Saturday and later submit his findings to the CM for an amicable solution.
