Vijayawada: State govt is aiming big in terms of utilising the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar – Bijli Muft Yojana (PMSGBMY). While Union govt set a target to install solar rooftops on one crore houses this year, state govt prepared plans to get 30 lakh units. The officials prepared a plan to achieve a 100% target in the Kuppam assembly segment.
Chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu held a review meeting on Monday on the ‘solarisation’ program launched by state govt to promote solar energy consumption.He observed that Andhra Pradesh should take advantage of unique environmental conditions to fully utilise solar power.
The CM advised the officials to explain to people the subsidies being given by govt and benefits like earning money by selling surplus power back to the grid by shifting to solar power. He suggested utilising PM Suryaghar and Kusum schemes through which Union govt is extending up to a 60% subsidy for installing rooftop solar systems.
The officials further stated that as many as 6,33,045 residential consumers registered for shifting to solar power. Among them, 70,110 applied for the PM Surya Ghar scheme, and solar panels were already installed on 4,961 homes.
In Kuppam assembly constituency, at least 50,314 homes were identified as suitable for solar power installation, and 50,312 homeowners gave their consent. This will allow the generation of solar power in a 2.66 crore sqft area. The total cost for Kuppam Resco project under PMSGBVY will be 286 crore. Of this, 172 crore will come from the Centre as subsidy. This apart, AP govt will facilitate beneficiaries in obtaining bank loans for the remaining amount of 114 crore.
