Kisan Sangh Calls for Reopening Nizam Sugar Factory to Support Farmers

HYDERABAD: All India Kisan Sangh state joint secretary Mood Shoban said the problems of sugarcane farmers had worsened and several sugar factories had been shut down as farmers were not being given Rs 5,500 per tonne even when the recovery was 9.5 per cent. “They have to get the amount into their accounts in 14 days but it is not being adhered to. This situation is leading to suicide of farmers across the country. There is a need to fight anti-farmer policies by coming together.”

He sought a bonus of Rs 500 per tonne for sugarcane. He said the state government was ignoring its promising of paying sugarcane growers Rs 500. The bid to push cultivation of palm oil in Khammam district by agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao in land unsuitable for the crop was leading to problems. Many farmers are not getting the crop yield promised to them, he said, adding there is a need to open the Nizam Sugar factory as promised in the Congress’ manifesto.
