Mahindra & Mahindra’s first born-electric SUVs – XEV 9e and BE 6e – are all set to make their global debut in India tomorrow (26th November 2024). Both electric SUVs are based on the all-new modular and customizable INGLO EV platform, co-developed by Mahindra and Volkswagen. This architecture features a skateboard layout with a flat floor to optimize cabin space. It also has a low center of gravity for better handling and stability. Mahindra has confirmed that the INGLO platform includes semi-active suspension, brake-by-wire technology, and an updated electric power steering system.
Mahindra XEV 9e – Key Details
Design
The prices of the XEV 9e will be announced tomorrow. It is essentially the electric version of the XUV700, featuring a coupe-style body. Up front, the electric coupe-SUV sports newly designed headlamps, a revised bumper, and a blanked-off grille with an LED light bar. It also features aero-optimized dual-tone alloy wheels and heavily flared wheel arches with gloss-black cladding. The rear profile mirrors the front with an LED light bar.
Interior & Features
The interior of the Mahindra XEV 9e offers a triple-screen setup, including a touchscreen infotainment system, an instrument cluster, and a display for the front passenger. It is equipped with a new two-spoke steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, revised seats and upholstery, a rotary dial, a new gear lever, dual-zone climate control, and an auto-dimming IRVM. Mahindra previously confirmed that its INGLO platform-based electric SUVs would include advanced features such as a Dolby Atmos-enabled 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, 5G connectivity, Level 2 ADAS with five radars, a panoramic sunroof with segment-first patterned lighting, and in-car cameras. Power & Battery Options
Powertrain details of the XEV 9e are yet to be officially revealed. However, it is expected to offer two battery pack options – a 59kWh and a 79kWh. While both batteries will support a single-motor setup, the dual-motor configuration might be exclusive to the larger 79kWh battery pack. Power outputs are likely to range between 228bhp and 281bhp. With a 175kW DC fast charger, the battery can charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
Mahindra BE 6e – Key Details
Design
The Mahindra BE 6e, the production version of the BE 05 concept, features aggressive styling with contoured surfaces, a closed-off front grille, full-width C-shaped LED DRLs surrounding the LED headlamps, new ‘BE’ logos, heavily flared wheel arches with gloss-black cladding, and aero-optimized alloy wheels.
Interior & Features
Inside, the BE 6e has a cockpit-inspired layout with dual floating infotainment screens and a twin-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo. Key features include an auto-dimming IRVM, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, Type-C charging ports, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, ambient lighting, ventilated and powered front seats, and multiple drive modes.
Power & Battery Options
Like the XEV 9e, the BE 6e will be available with two battery options – a 59kWh and a 79kWh – and offer single and dual-motor setups. Power figures will range between 228bhp and 281bhp. Mahindra has revealed that its born-electric SUVs utilize a compact three-in-one powertrain, integrating the motor, inverter, and transmission. The battery can also be charged from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes using a 175kW DC fast charger.
Price Expectations
In terms of pricing, some variants of the two new Mahindra electric SUVs are expected to overlap. While official prices will be announced tomorrow, industry speculations suggest that the Mahindra BE 6e will be priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 30 lakh, while the Mahindra XEV 9e will cost between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh.
